Surfing the surface: MSN, Apple @ D5: Jobs meets Gates LIVE.

May 31, 2007

It is always interesting when two big success stories get together as Bill Gates and Steve Jobs did at the recent digital expo. However, what is most exciting about that is the reaffirmation of what has been accomplished and to get “a peek” of what is coming. Enter Microsoft’s “surface.” This is incredible, but not exactly new. I remember seeing this technology way back in January by a professor at a smaller expo shortly after the iPhone was announced. If anybody can confirm that video, that would be great, I’ll check the Thunk Different Gmail for those of you col enough to contact me. Check out a new teaser commercial for how Surface will change things way in the future, like 2009 at a Starwood hotel. HERE

{Stay tuned for the next episode for an argument of “splitting the bill”}

You Tube on Apple TV

May 31, 2007

apple tv you tube

Apple today announced that it will allow Apple TV users to wirelessly stream video content from Google’s YouTube service to their televisions starting in June. The Cupertino-based company said YouTube will be available as a free software update in mid-June, while Apple boss Steve Jobs revealed that the full YouTube catalog will be available on Apple TV in the fall, according to MarketWatch. The company began shipping the Apple TV in March, with industry analysts projecting various results as the device develops and consumers learn more about what the Apple TV actually does. Apple also announced that it is offering a new 160GB Apple TV build-to-order option. (Source:Macnn)

Is Apple DRM free or not?

May 30, 2007

Yes and no. More simply put, no. Apple is starting to open up its catalogue to the greater suggestion of DRM free music, but at this time, it is still doing the “the old song and dance.” So even with new editions like Paul McCartney, or old classics like New Edition in a way you still have to pay. Don’t you, google it and see what i mean… HERE

Music arrives with a 25-30 per cent price hike.

Apple has started shipping songs without digital rights management (DRM) technology.

The music can be found in the new iTunes Plus store and is limited to songs offered by the EMI record label.

Apple chief executive Steve Jobs however predicted that more labels would follow.

“We expect more than half of the songs on iTunes will be offered in iTunes Plus versions by the end of this year,” Jobs said in a statement.

With the launch of iTunes Plus, Apple is making good on its April promise to start offering the DRM-free tracks by May. The music is 25 to 30 per cent more expensive than songs with DRM at $1.29 for US buyers and 99p in the UK. Users can upgrade previous iTunes purchases their existing song libraries at a fee of $0.30 or 20p per song.

MySpace Banned in Apple Stores.

May 29, 2007

i have been hearing a lot about myspace lately, mostly that it isn’t that well liked. i agree with that sentiment. Myspace is cluttered, ugly, slow, and a nuisance really, the Apple retails outlets apparently agree. While MySpace can post videos and is…

myspace ban

…good for social networking, sites like Facebook, bebo, xanga, and orkut have had a better run lately than the original gansta. (Friendster was no gangsta) Yes, MySpace is on the decline in the on-line world and also from the terrestrial world as well. (based on Crave, CNN Money which just disappeared & Gadgetech, they also are unable to find their source hmmm) Perhaps this has been pulled.

“And stay out!”

DRM Free Music this week?

May 29, 2007

It seems that iTunes is picking up steam regarding their decision to offer EMI’s for downloaders come this week? It appears that way at Macnn & other outlets in the cataloge of music sans Digital Rights Management restrictions. Will the opportunity blogosphere. i feel it would be a big step in the right direction regarding music, so that more players and users’ collections can become compatible. Otherwise, we will make them compatible anyway, just with more frustration and likely more downloads from services such as limewire, kazaa, and bit torrents.

iGasm: Whoops there it is!

May 25, 2007

igasmHave you ever wondered how to upset Apple? Well, a London-based sex shop has done just that, with its advertisement of a genius little sex device, known as the iGasm. The $60 iGasm, created by Ann Summers, sold on annsummers.com, is a personal sex device that connects to your iPod and vibrates in sync with the beat. The United Kingdom’s News of the World is reporting that Apple is threatening legal action against the London-based retailer for peddling the iGasm.

It’s not the device itself, but rather the advertisement which is causing Apple to take action. The ad (as shown) is an obvious knock off from the images on the iPod campaign.

iPod or iGasm? You be the judge
iGasm ad (left), iPod ad (right)

Annsummers.com, describing the iGasm: “Go at it hard and fast with a pounding drum and bass track or chill with the ambient classic. Just turn up the volume to increase the strength of the vibrations and believe us when we say that full whack is PHENOMENAL.”

As a result, Apple is insisting that Ann Summers remove all posters for the iGasm. “We hope this request to remove it immediately will prevent us having to consider further action,” said Apple lawyers.
